26 Week Check Up

Yesterday: I started my morning 7:45 at the Scott and White lab. Well, let me back up. I started my morning an hour before with a big bottle of some kind of super sweet orange drink stuff. It actually tasted like an Orange soft drink but way sweeter. Exactly an hour later I was at the lab for my blood glucose test. After which I met my hubby for a quick breakfast and then it was off to my appointment with Dr. Appelton. I weighed in...gained 4 pounds since my last visit a month ago for a total 17. From here on out I think I'm supposed to gain a pound a week. We'll see about that. Next she measured my tummy. Everything is right on track as far as size goes. Then we listened to the baby's heartbeat. It was pretty fast and loud. It sounded like a horse running : ) Dr. Appelton said it was a little fast but well within the norm considering I had just downed a big bottle of sugar water. We got all of our hospital paperwork and we were out the door. Today: My lab work came back and my blood glucose level was high. 160. She said they prefer to see it around 140. I dont know why I was so surprised. I've been craving and drinking practically a milkshake a day. I figured it was made with milk - it couldnt be too bad for me. So now I have to take the 3 hour blood glucose test on Tuesday. It doesn't sound like much fun - 3 bottles of orange sugar water followed by 3 blood tests over a 3 hour period. Yikes! If the baby's heartbeat was crazy before look out after all that sugar. Hopefully, everything will turn out fine but just in case I spent most of the day reading up on gestational diabetes. Looks like I'm going to have to cut out my Jethro size bowl of Frosted Flakes every night. Please say a little prayer for me and my little cupcake.

Say a little prayer please...

Don't get all excited...this is Amber's baby bump not mine!

My friend Amber is 30 weeks pregnant. Its really been kind of cool to have her just ahead of me in this whole pregnancy thing because everything happens to her first and then she warns me about it : )

Please say a little prayer for Amber and her twin boys...that's right TWINS!!! She was put on bed rest right before spring break but she was still allowed to drive occasionally just not work.
Well, on Monday, she was diagnosed with preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a dangerous pregnancy condition for both mommy and babies. Now, she's REALLY on bedrest ALL THE TIME! I'd go nuts! So, please pray for her health and sanity.

Kids will be kids...but what about the adults?

My dad, Henry, turned 63 this week. To celebrate we took him to dinner at a hibachi grill and then went to our house to open presents and hang out afterwards. It was a good time.

I mention this because this past Saturday you would never have guessed my dad was 63! My cousins, Jon and Shauna, had a wonderful house warming party in Austin complete with BBQ, a cupcake bar, and a Mickey Mouse bouncy house! It was a great afternoon getting to spend time with the Jankowiak family. When the party finally broke up and most of the little kids went home the BIG kids came out! My mom and dad and uncle all climbed in the bouncy house and "played" for about 30 minutes! Kudos to Uncle Billy Joe for mastering the flip - mom and dad just bounced : ) It warmed my heart to see them in there jumping and having fun just like little kids.

Thank you God for not letting the bouncy house explode with all of them in there at the same time.

The Clickity Clack of Little Feet

Brian did it! He got our new floor put in and it looks GREAT! The only thing we didn't think about before putting in the wood floor was the noise the dogs would make when they walk across it. Geesh...it's like a herd of tap dancers running through the house non-stop! We've purchased some big rugs but even that doesn't seem to be enough. Do they make doggie socks?

Ahhh chick-fil-a

So I dont normally endorse a business but today Chick-Fil-A earned some major points with me. Aiden is staying with us over spring break and today both Brian and I have to work which means Aiden gets to go to Power Sports. It was crazy there this morning with all the parents and kids trying to get signed up for spring break camp. I got Aiden all checked in and just as I was walking out the door the heavens opened up and I got soaked sprinting back to the car. It didnt help that my current version of a sprint is more like a waddle with a skip somewhere in the middle. Regardless, I made it to the car and headed towards work. I was turning from Harvey onto Texas when the Chick-Fil-A caught my attention. I had plenty of time to get to work so I thought "Why not? Its spring break and I have to work! I deserve a chicken biscuit!" I placed my order, drove to the window and then realized I couldn't find my wallet! Yikes! Maybe I left it at Power Sports or maybe not and if not where? The guy at the window waited patiently while I dug frantically through my purse...no wallet! I apologized profusely and explained that I'd have to come back later. The guy at the drive through (I wish I would have gotten his name) was so kind. He just told me to take it so I could eat it while it was hot and when I found my wallet I could always come back by and square up. Really? Really! I took my breakfast and pulled around the building to do a quick search of my car before scrambling back to Power Sports. And, that's when I found it - wedged between my seat and the car door! I looped back through the drive through and explained to the girl now servicing the window what had happened. She said dont worry about it. It's happened to her before. Just enjoy my breakfast! Really? Really! Well, I paid anyway not wanting to get either of them in trouble later but WOW! The folks at Chick-Fil-A win my customer service prize for the day!

I'm pretty sure it's the baby's new favorite restaurant!

She's a Mover and Shaker!

Our baby's a mover and shaker...just add ice water : )

I'd been worried because I'm right at 23 weeks now and still hadn't been able to feel the baby. My doctor said its because I have an anterior placenta which means the placenta sits on top of the baby acting as a pillow which makes it difficult to feel her. I'd seen her move on the ultra sound but never felt her.

That is until last night. I was going to grab a bottle of water from the frig before I went to bed only to find we didn't have any. My hero, Brian, told me he had just bought some and put it in the freezer so it would get cold quickly. Well, it wasn't just cold. It was FROZEN! I set it on the cabinet to thaw for a few minutes while I did my nightly ritual of greasing up my tummy (don't want any stretch marks). All ready for bed I downed the really chilly bottle of water and climbed under the covers. And, that's when it happened. I felt her! She was just kicking away. I guess the ice water woke her up and she was giving me a few bumps to let me know she didn't appreciate it. Don't worry, I promised Brian I wouldn't drink ice water just so I could feel her...well, not too often anyway : )

Still Snotty!

This is ridiculous! I've been sick since last Thursday. I cannot get rid of this stuff. My doctor told me I could take Tylenol for the sore throat and fever and Sudafed for the congestion and I did but I'm still feeling yucky! I really hate to keep pumping my body full of all this medication especially since my little baby is getting a dose too.

So, I need your help! I'm looking for some good home remedies. I haven't had any fever the last few days BUT I have been really congested and it's moved from my head to my chest. I've also still got a sore throat. If you have any suggestions please email them to me at:

Thanks!!!

I've got the crud!

Yep...I've got that nasty bug that's been going around. That's what I get for making fun of all the sickies at the radio station. I was like you all (including the guys) need to take some prenatal vitamins - I never get sick. NEVER SAY NEVER!

An update on our little blessing...

If you've been following along thus far then you know that Brian and I are expecting a little baby girl. Her due date is July 8th although I'm hoping she'll come a few days early so that we can have fireworks every year for her birthday. I had an appointment with my doctor yesterday...I'm 21 weeks and a few days pregnant and all is well. I got to see her kicking and squirming and hear her heartbeat. It makes me all giddy each time I think about her. I've got some ultrasound pictures I need to scan in so you can see how beautiful she is...she looks just like me if I were a little alien : )

So now we're trying to figure out what we're going to name her. Aiden, my 8 year old step-son, thinks we should name her Pepper or Twiggy! Thanks Sarah for giving me that crazy baby name book. Maybe we'll have a Name That Baby Contest on KORA!

Put your thinking caps on people! Help me find a name for this sweet baby girl!
