Emrie and Whiskey

Emrie got this great rocking horse last year for Christmas. We'd put her on it occassionally but we'd have to hold her the entire time and even then she wasn't too sure about it.  Well, just this last week she's really started to try to climb on it all by herself - she can't do it yet but she sure tries.  Now when we put her on it she doesn't want us to hold her at all.  In fact, if I try to brace her back she swats my hand away!  The biggest problem now is she doesn't want to get off!

The picture on the left is her serious horse riding face.  The picture on the right is her not so serious horse riding face.

OHHHH...and I almost forgot...the reason the title of this post is Emrie and Whiskey is not that I have a one-year-old alcoholic.  Whiskey the horse's name.  She (yes it's a girl) is named after her Mufasa's horse Whiskey.  Hopefully, the name will make for a smooth transition when Emrie goes from the rocking horse to the real thing!

Emrie's Best Buddy

Emrie has recently started toting her Minnie Mouse with her everywhere she goes including to bed.  Last night when I tucked her in she was holding Minnie and completely under the covers.  When I went back in about an hour later this is what I found.  I had to laugh!  She had readjusted herself so that she could sleep on Minnie and was almost completely out from under the covers.

Yesterday was another tough one for my little Mootzie.  She came home with a bite mark on her shoulder.  Apparently, she and another little one were working on their sharing skills...which must not have been going to well because by the time the teacher got to them Emrie had a bite on her shoulder and she had her buddy in a headlock and was about to do a Mike Tison!  Blahaha!

Nothing like Mootzie in the Morning

Emrie had a rough morning.  She woke up at about 4:30 and did not want to go back to sleep so I tucked her in bed with us.  Within a couple of minutes she and her daddy were both sawing logs...which means I couldn't go back to sleep.  I did manage to catch a couple winks of sleep before the alarm went off at 6am.  I couldn't help myself!  Emrie had major bed head so I snapped these pictures.

When we're getting ready for work in the  morning she likes to hang out in the bathroom with us.  Her new thing is to open and close drawers and cabinets.  This morning as she was pulling the drawer in and out and in and out and in and out (you get the picture), she closed her fingers in the drawer - not hard, but she just sat there looking at me like all of a sudden she forgot how to pull the drawer out again!  Bless her little heart.  She didn't even cry but she made the saddest face.  It was over in seconds.  So then, she started playing with the cabinet doors swinging them in and out and in and out until she bonked herself in the head!  That's when the tears came...poor little Mootzie.  I told you she was having a rough morning.

I know...I know...time to baby proof the drawers and cabinets!

She's a Big Girl Now...

It's hard to believe that Emrie is almost 1 year old!  The big day, July 1, is just around the corner.  Her new thing is to try feed herself which is messy but really kind of entertaining. As you can tell from the picture, it takes two spoons to get the job done...one for her to feed herself and one for me to actually get some food in her mouth.  Last night she ravioli EVERYWHERE!

After dinner, it's bath time!  She's gotten into bad habit of standing up in the bath tub.  I'm constantly telling her "Emrie, sit your little butt down."  Well, last night I stepped out of the bathroom to get her towel and when I walked back there she was standing straight up.  I gave her the infamous mommy look, pointed my finger and told her to sit her butt down.  Emrie looked right at me, cocked her head to the side, started babbling and pointed her little finger right back at me!!!

Still Got a Lot of Lovin' to do!

This Father's Day weekend, we visited Brian's grandparents in Asherton, TX.

What do you mean you've never heard of Asherton?  It's about 2.5 hours south of San Antonio.  The whole trip takes about 5.5 hours from our house - closer to 6.5 after bathroom breaks which seem to have increased now that Emrie is along for the ride.

It was a nice and interesting Father's Day.  Three generations of Eneks men all under one roof.  I had a great time comparing stories and characteristics of Brian's grandfather (Big Pawpaw), his dad (Little Pawpaw) and Brian with those of us who are "lucky enough to be married to them."  Quote provided by THEM!

I snapped this picture of Brian's grandparents Sunday afternoon as we were about to hit the road for home.  They were so funny!  We had taken several pictures with them...and the sons...and grandkids...and great grandkids...and then just the two of them.  We don't get to Asherton too often so I had to document the trip - it was Emrie's first time.  Anyhoo, we were about to leave and I was like "GIVE HER A BIG KISS!"  So he did...it was sweet.  Then they both looked at me kind of crazy when I shouted "slip her some tongue."  Hey! Can't blame a girl for trying.

Little Miss Independent

Emrie cracks me up!  Her most recent thing is that she likes to walk into big school all by herself.  She doesn't want you to carry her.  She doesn't want you to hold her hand.  She wants to do it all by herself.  She's 11mths old by the way...

Brian said this morning the staff opened the door.  He sat Emrie down and she took off straight to her room - never even looked back at him.  He said next time he's just going to sling her diaper bag over her shoulder and let her go! YIKES!

Next thing you know she won't want to be seen with us in public.  We'll have to start dropping her off around the corner...and no more kisses goodbye : (

This is a picture of her from this morning enjoying a fig newton before school.  She's such a little toot!  I love her.

New Hair

I got new hair!  Yes it's a little darker than I'm used to but it was either go dark or go bald...that's right bald!

About 3 months ago I got a really bad highlight job.  I mean REALLY BAD!  When the guy pulled out my foils, he pulled out a lot of my hair with them.  It broke my heart because I had been growing out my locks since I first found out I was pregnant with Emrie.  So, I've been conditioning, conditioning, conditioning to keep more of it from breaking off.  For you ladies who regularly highlight your hair, you know what I'm talking about.  Some of the hair in my bang area and crown of my head are about an inch long : (

My dark roots were really starting to show so I went to my NEW lady at a NEW salon who really took the time to examine my hair.  Her goal (and mine) is to get it healthy again.  So when I mentioned trying just a few (6) foils across the top to cover my roots she said she would if I insisted BUT she was truly concerned that my hair would pull out with the foils again.  I decided against that idea and opted for a light brown toner instead.  The end result...light brownish, red hair.  I like the color and BEST PART - it's all still there on top of my head where it belongs!

Another first...dinner at Olive Garden!

Several of the women in my office have decided to start Weight Watchers (again).  We're all going to get signed up today and weigh in today.  Oh sure, I could do it on my own but there's just something about those women who manage the scales that shame me into losing the pounds faster!

My goal is to lose about 15lbs.  Right now WW has a 3mth summer special - I figure 3mths is should be plenty of time to lap off 15lbs.  Since having Emrie, I've shed all 40lbs I gained when I was pregnant with her and even a few extra pounds.  I had actually packed on about 10-15lbs in the process of trying to get pregnant.  All those shots packed full of hormones (and who knows what else) really took a toll on my body.  So, while I've lost the weight...things aren't where they used to be!  My master plan pairs WW with an exercise routine I can keep up with.  It's been hard because when I get off work I want to hang out with Emrie.  I mean, I haven't seen her all day so the last thing I want to do is drop her off in the nursery at the gym for another hour.  Brian and I talked about it and I think we finally have a schedule that will work for all of us nailed down.

In preparation for today, I ate at one of my favorite places last night - Olive Garden!  Brian and I split a dinner so that wasn't too bad, right?  Last night was Emrie's first time at Olive Garden.  She did great - she always does great when food is involved.  She had penne pasta with grilled chicken breast and of course bread sticks.  She even tried an olive from my salad.  She's getting to be such a big girl.  It's hard to believe she'll be a year old on July 1!  My sweet little baby is growing up - STOP IT!!!

A few pics from the weekend

Emrie and the horsie
Emrie on the bus
Emrie and the moo cow
Emrie and the really big turtle

Emrie, Brian, Aiden and puppies

I know I promised to post these sooner but with my grandma's passing, I simply haven't had time.  On that note, a big thank you to everyone who sent flowers and condolences.  They were all very much appreciated.  My grandma always got a big kick out of Emrie - she would have loved these pictures!
The moo cow getting Emrie
The horsie sticking her tongue out at Emrie

Emrie loves her baby

Emrie has recently started carrying around her baby doll everywhere she goes!  This morning she was sitting on the floor just talking away to her baby.  I'd say something to her, she'd look at me for a second and then she was back talking to her baby - probably telling her something about me!  When it was time to go to Big School, Brian picked her up but she wasn't about to let go of her baby.  So Brian, Emrie and baby all made the drive to Big School this morning.  No idea if baby actually made it into school or not.  My guess is Brian now has baby...tucked under the seat of his jeep. Heaven forbid someone see him with a baby doll!

I love you, Grandma. You will be missed.

My Grandma Mueller passed away this afternoon.  She was a wonderful grandma.  She lived right next door to us for most of my life.  She was very much like a second mom to me and Brandon. She loved animals, polka music and baking! She was by far the best cook ever!  Nobody could make kolaches or apple pie like my Grandma.  I think she's the reason I love to cook...and eat.

This past week, something was telling me that I needed to go visit her.  At the time, I had no idea why but Thursday I took half a day off from work, picked up Emrie from daycare and made the drive to Brenham.  We spent several hours just hanging out with Grandma.  She loved playing with Emrie and Emrie got real tickled every time Grandma grabbed at her little toes - they'd both laugh.  It was a good visit.  Over the last several years Grandma would have good days and bad days.  Thursday was a good day.  I know now that it was God telling me to visit her and God who made sure that last visit was a good one.

I talked to my mom just a few minutes ago.  She was with Grandma when she died.  She said she passed away very peacefully.  We agreed that she is in a much better place - a place without pain, a place where she can walk and dance to polka music and a place where she can bake again.  I truly believe that.  I have faith in all that God's promises.  So, while I mourn, I also rejoice.

I love you, Grandma.  I will miss you until we meet again in Heaven.

Saturday - good day/bad day

I promise I'll get some pictures up tomorrow.  I'm having a hard time getting them to download from my phone.  I have lots to share with you.

We started yesterday in Snook at Farm Fest 2012.  Emrie and Aiden had a great time.  Emrie loved the barnyard exhibit (as you'll see in the pictures I'm going to post) and Aiden loved the reptile exhibit.  Now he wants a bullnose snake for his birthday.  Thanks Farm Fest!

By the time we got home, it was mid-afternoon and Emrie didn't seem to be feeling well.  I took her temperature and it was 101.  I gave her some Advil and she took a nice long nap.  I had to go to the Starlight Music Series so Aiden went with me and Brian stayed home with Emrie.  Aiden had a blast hanging out backstage with me.  He made friends with EVERYONE including some of the roadies for the 7 Bridges Band - who took him on the bus, introduced him to the band and let him play XBox with them half the night.  What a little knucklehead!

When we got home, which was around 9:30pm, Emrie was sound asleep.  Brian said she had fever again before she went to bed.  I kept a close eye on her all through the night.  She slept pretty well but she did have a temperature again when she woke up this morning.  I'm not sure if it's her ears again or if it could come from teething or if it's something else all together.  All I know is my little Mootzie is not feeling well.  If she runs a fever tonight, we'll be back at the doctor in the morning.

Chernobyl Diaries

Don't waste your time or money on this one.  I was VERY disappointed from start to finish though I did enjoy my popcorn and hotdogs very much.

Next on my movie list is Men in Black 3.  I heard it was really good.  I liked the first one a lot and the second wasn't bad so I'm gonna give it a chance.  It seems like one of those movies that's going to be best on the big screen.  Brian doesn't really want to see it so I'm taking the other leading man in my life, Aiden.  He's 9.  We're on the same level when it comes to movies!

The Game Plan for Tonight!

It's been a while since we've had the chance to go see a movie soooo tonight Brian and I are going to watch Chernobyl Diaries!  I love scary movies so I can hardly wait.  The website, Rotten Tomatoes, said it was pretty bad so that probably means it's pretty good.  My parents are keeping Emrie tonight so the plan is to catch an early movie and then a lite dinner before going home to sleep...all night...without interuption!

If you're looking for a light hearted rental, I highly recommend One for the Money.  It's a movie based on the first book in a series by Janet Evanovich.  I really liked it.  If you've read the books, there's a little variation from the story but still a solid flick.  If your husband thinks it simply a chick flick, tell him my friend, Luis, watched it and gave it too thumbs up too...of course, he has a thing for Katherine Heigl.  Who knows?  Maybe your husband does too : )
